Unfortunately
many of our customers only find out that they have a problem
with termites when they have some renovations carried out
on their home.
Not
only have they got the cost of their new bathroom, kitchen
or new rooms, but they have to add in the expense of a termite
treatment as well!
It
is a scenario we
see too often!!

Homes
constructed on concrete slabs pose special problems with respect
to termite attack. If the edge of the slab is concealed by
concrete paths, patios, pavers, garden beds, lawns, foliage,
etc then it is possible for termites to gain concealed entry
into the property. They can then cause extensive damage to
concealed framing timbers.
With
a concrete slab home it is imperative that you expose the
edge of the slab and ensure that foliage and garden beds do
not cover the slab edge. Weep holes must be kept free of obstructions.

Here
the slab edge has been covered by decorative concrete
- a situation that can allow
termites to gain concealed
entry into a home

Childs
Pest Services recommend that a visual termite inspection be
carried out at least annually (more frequently on high termite
risk properties).
It
is important to remember that when we inspect a property,
not only are we looking for termite activity or damage, but
we are also looking for conditions that will increase the
likelihood of termite attack at your home.

For
most people, the family home is their most valuable asset!
With property values increasing, the cost of an inspection
to ensure that termites are not eating away at your home should
be part of your annual home maintenance.
If
you haven't had an inspection carried out
on your home for a few years, it may be
time to have us carry out one today!!
